Operation Attack

Lakewood helps support this community effort to provide relief to disadvantaged families.

Mission Trips

The most recent was a 10 person mission team to the Dominican Republic sponsored by Lakewood under the leadership of David Pitt. Another mission trip to the Dominican Republic is planned for next year.

International Day of Peace

Established by the United Nations as world wide day to celebrate peace. Schools, communities, and churches around the world participate in celebrating peace. It is also declared a day of cease fire in all armed conflicts around the world. Each year, Lakewood UCC holds a special event on September 21 that is a celebration of peace.

Book Club

The Lakewood UCC book club meets monthly for a potluck dinner followed by discussion of the reading selection for the month. The group generally meets at someone’s home on the last Friday of the month. The reading selection for the month is noted in the Sunday bulletin announcements. All are welcome to join in the book club discussions. Come once or twice a year, or every month, whatever suits you!

Fair Trade Coffee

Fair trade coffee is available for purchase in the library. Purchasing this coffee helps to directly support the growers.

Church Library

The church has a small library that specializes in book about religion, the Bible, and progressive Christianity including books by members of the Jesus Seminar, Bishop John Shelby Spong, Karen Armstrong, Elaine Pagels, and others. All are welcome to use the church library.

Fellowship Events

A fellowship gathering follows most Sunday morning worship services. Additionally, there are the occasional special events such as the jazz Christmas concerts and different seasonal dinners. This past year we put on a very succesful talent show–another is sure to follow.
