Weekly Update 13 February

This Sunday: The City of St. Petersburg is declaring Feb. 15 Ray Charles Day.   The service this Sunday will celebrate the music and legacy of Ray Charles.

Creation Justice: It’s official, Lakewood UCC is a Creation Justice Church!!! Many thanks to the creation justice team: Claire Stiles, Yoko Nogami, and Wally LeBlanc for working so hard on this.

Finance Team Meeting: The Finance Team will meet Friday Feb. 15 at 9:30am in the Library.  

LUCC Concert Series: celebrating Old Time, Blues, Blue Grass, Folk & Country music. All concerts begin at 7pm. There is a $20 suggested donation for the band, doors open at 6:30pm. Memorial Service: There will be a service celebrating the life of Shirley Locke on Saturday, 2/16, at 11am in the Lounge at Westminster Suncoast (1095 Pinellas Point Dr S) 

Care Team Meeting: The Care Team will meet in the Fellowship Hall following worship on Sunday the 17th. Interested in visiting and/or calling homebound members of the church? All are welcome to attend!

One City Chorus: The next One City Chorus concert will be on February 17th at 4pm at the Palladium Theater (253 5th Ave N). Tickets are $25 at the door, $20 in advance. LUCC member Jeff Wells is a member of the chorus and has two free tickets to give away.

Environmental Film Festival: Eckerd College’s 21st annual film festival begins 21 February and runs through 2 March. All films are free and open to the public. The festival takes place on the Eckerd College campus (4200 54th Ave S). For a complete schedule visit environmentalfilmfest.com.

Sunday Celebrations: The theme for this month’s potluck lunch on Sunday 24 February following morning worship is picnic. Burgers and dogs, veggies burgers, buns, condiments, and drinks provided. Please bring a side dish to share. Tables will be set up outside, weather permitting!

Ash Wednesday: The season of Lent begins March 6.  There will be an outdoor service, lakeside around a fire, at the home of Dana, Chip, and Jackson Cosper.  Save the date for this beautiful gathering!

Theological Orientation Discussions: The advisors are hosting these discussions as a way to follow up on conversations begun last year about LUCC’s mission statement. The next session will be held Feb. 19 from 7:00 to 8:15pm. The topic is belief, values, and behavior. Future sessions will involve discussion of creeds, and Jesus and Christ.  Future dates are: Feb. 27, March 19, and March 27. All are welcome. Come when you can!

Volunteer Opportunity: The calendar on the church office door is “woefully behind.” If you would like to help keep this calendar up to date please contact the church office.
