2015 Blessing of Pets service photos

The Blessing of Pets
On Sunday Oct. 11, 2015, Lakewood UCC in St. Petersburg joined the many churches welcoming pets and blessing them. The church is fortunate to have extensive grounds, so the pet-friendly Sunday morning service was held outside. Water bowls were provided for the pets that came – many dogs, one cat and one gerbil. During the service, each person/family that brought a pet was invited to come forward and introduce the pet and tell about the pet. The owners were also asked to share what they learn from their pet and how their pet is a blessing to them. The service was a celebration of how pets bless their owners. And, yes, each pet was blessed as well. It turns out the service was very well received and a blessing to all who were there – with and without pets!

Family Promise Shines

It was another wonderful week with Family Promise, the interfaith program designed to help homeless families gain independence and dignity. Many thanks to everyone from the church who assisted as LUCC helped to staff the program last week. The wonderful work done by all was of great service to the families. Family Promise is seeing results as families move toward financial and social stability thanks to all of the hard work of the staff and many volunteers. Families are moving into their own apartments. The next and final week for LUCC to participate for 2015 will be the week of October 4th. There will be more details as the time approaches. Special thanks to coordinators Gary and Victoria Long for making it possible for LUCC to make a difference through Family Promise.
