Spectacular Sunday Celebrations 2016 kickoff
Lakewood UCC kicked off Sunday Celebrations 2016 with unprecedented festivity! The hosts for the monthly potluck on the last Sunday of the month were Preston Poe and Yoko Nogami. Since Preston’s birthday was in January, Preston and Yoko invited some of their other friends to help celebrate at Sunday Celebrations. There were over 65 people happily filling the Fellowship Hall enjoying food, fellowship, and, oh yes, entertainment. Hilton Jones played some ragtime favorites. Jeff Wells added some Bob Dylan. And the nationally famous folk music singer/songwriter, Roy Book Binder, offered several tunes to cap off the event! The pictures below capture some of the fun and conviviality enjoyed at January’s Sunday Celebrations!

2015 Blessing of Pets service photos
The Blessing of Pets
On Sunday Oct. 11, 2015, Lakewood UCC in St. Petersburg joined the many churches welcoming pets and blessing them. The church is fortunate to have extensive grounds, so the pet-friendly Sunday morning service was held outside. Water bowls were provided for the pets that came – many dogs, one cat and one gerbil. During the service, each person/family that brought a pet was invited to come forward and introduce the pet and tell about the pet. The owners were also asked to share what they learn from their pet and how their pet is a blessing to them. The service was a celebration of how pets bless their owners. And, yes, each pet was blessed as well. It turns out the service was very well received and a blessing to all who were there – with and without pets!

Great review for Colleen Coughenour in play
Excerpts from the Curtain Call
By LEE CLARK ZUMPE
Article published on Monday, Sept. 28, 2015
“West Coast Players delivers dark, witty, unnerving social drama”
“Directed by Linda Woodruff Weir, West Coast Players’ production of “A Delicate Balance” finds its own perfect balance between dark comedy and drama.
‘Sometimes Edward Albee’s work is difficult to understand, is tough to sit through, but somehow you end up admiring the brilliance of his words, the wonderful dialogue he writes for these very off-putting characters,” Weir writes in her notes. “We absolutely admire Albee’s work and have enjoyed bringing these amazing and tragic figures to life. I realize this is Edward Albee, but this play is really funny, too.’
Weir is right, and her cast captures the cynical humor of this play perfectly.”
“Tom Costello and Colleen Coughenour play Tobias and Agnes. Coughenour is brutally domineering – though all that tyranny is uttered on a voice that is deceivingly calm and unruffled. Her insults and slights are eloquently articulated…Costello and Coughenour both manage to convey the most important aspect of their characters: Agnes and Tobias have a developed a kind of existential paralysis.”

by Edward Albee
