Keynote speaker Dr. H. Roy Kaplan, former Executive Director of the National Conference of Christians and Jews for Tampa Bay, will address learning to live together in these tumultuous times.
Choirs from B’nai Israel and the Aurora Children’s Choir will perform. Students will receive awards for their essays about Dr. King. Representatives from diverse faith traditions will render prayers for peace and understanding.
Now entering into its 21st year, the festival is changing its format. It will now take place over two consecutive weekends, beginning on February 21st and ending on March 2nd, 2019. The first weekend will follow a format similar to that of the past twenty years, with evening screenings of critically acclaimed and important films from around the world. Democrats and Republicans in the House of Representatives just introduced H.R. 8, a bill to update background checks in America. Moms Demand Action Founder Shannon Watts stood alongside Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, newly elected Congresswoman and former Everytown spokesperson Lucy McBath, and other survivors of gun violence — on the eight year mark of the day Gabrielle Giffords was shot at a constituent meeting in Tucson, Arizona — to announce this landmark legislation.
This bipartisan bill will strengthen background checks and save lives. And your Representative needs to hear from you so this life-saving legislation passes the House.
