Family Promise is a new ministry initiative in St. Petersburg to reach out to homeless families with children. It is a model that is being used successfully nationwide. Numerous congregations and community partners have come together to begin Family Promise of Pinellas County.
The program is up and running under the leadership of Executive Director Debbie Nash supported by an able board of directors. Lakewood United Church of Christ is a support congregation working with Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Many thanks to those from the LUCC congregation who were part of the Family Promise training this week: Gary Long, Victoria Long, Denise Williams, Patti Cooksey, Ed Helm, Adrien Helm, Colleen Coughenour, Emily Bell, Bob Bell, Carol Shores, Ron Huff, Janet Blair, Jim Andrews, Deb Kenneda, Jeff Wells, Kim Wells. Earl Waters and Bill Lindsay are attending another training session. Mary Weber and Vita Uth will be helping with food preparation. In addition, many thanks to those who have been donating laundry soap, an iron, an ironing board, and other items needed for Family Promise.
There is also a need for children’s books and board games. Please bring new and used items to the church.
LUCC will be volunteering at Lakewood United Methodist Church the week of May 24. Please speak with Victoria or Gary Long for additional information.
