Artist Information:

Bio:

Jason Charos graduated from the Pinellas County Center for the Arts at Gibbs High School in 2017. He is currently completing the third year of his undergraduate degree at the University of Miami Frost School of Music. He plans on pursuing a Master’s degree in New York City upon graduating from UM. Jason is a member of Brian Lynch’s trumpet studio at the Frost School, and he plays in the trumpet in the Frost Concert Jazz Band under the direction of John Daversa.

Quintet Description:

The Jason Charos Quintet seeks to play repertoire from the straight-ahead jazz tradition that is not commonly performed as well as original music. All of the tunes are arranged by the members of the band. For the tunes that are not originals, the group pulls from the songbooks of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Woody Shaw, Booker Little, Benny Golson, Wayne Shorter, and Joe Henderson among many others. The sole intent of the ensemble, though, is to provide the listener with an uplifting experience through music that is just swinging.

Fun Socks Drive!

Maximo Elementary invited the church to provide fun and colorful socks to all the students at the school open house on September 5th.

Fun socks are socks with several colors and/or patterns! They are available at many stores including Target and the Dollar Store.

Children sizes for kindergarten through 5th grade are needed.

Bring your socks to church and put them in the sock bin!

This effort comes from LUCC’s Children and Youth Ministry Team reaching out to Maximo Elementary when we learned that there are 86 homless students at the school.

Thank you for supporting this Fun Socks Drive!

Randy’s Song

Randy Wilson preformed a special song for service that he wrote about the Wedding in Cana. The transformation of water into wine at the Wedding at Cana is the first miracle attributed to Jesus in the Gospel of John. Randy Wilson’s performance focused on the story of Jesus turning water into wine in the gospel of John chapter 2.

Evan Kinney with Van Burchfield, Old-Time Workshop and Concert

Lakewood UCC had a great time at the Workshop and Concert. Thank you to everyone who came and participated! We Learned ragtime chords for various instruments and played 3 tunes by the end! Traveled through old time music recording history from texas to Florida, lots of Georgia tunes for the concert. This was a wonderful start to the concert series! Thank you Evan Kinney & Van Burchfield for a great time!

The first rehearsal of the fall choir season is Sunday 9 am, September 8th…that’s the Sunday after Labor Day. Rehearsals are in the church sanctuary. All you need to do is show up, and you will be welcomed!
